Polymer analysis by XRF – from manufacturing to recycling

Elemental analysis in the petrochemical industry varies greatly depending upon which step you are in the process. The petrochemical process begins with extraction of the crude oil and ends in with recycling. Each step requires a variety of materials and elements to be analyzed. We will explore where XRF fits into each of the different stages of the processing chain. The presentation will conclude with a demonstration of EDXRF analysis of polymers.

About the presenter:

Christopher Shaffer, XRF, XRD, and OES Business Development Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific
After graduating college, Chris started his career at the Ferro Corporation managing an analytical laboratory where he first learnt the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). Chris joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2007 as an XRF applications specialist for North America and then held different roles in Europe and back to the US in product management and business management.
