Life Technologies Employees Volunteer 35,000 Hours in 2010
by Heather Virdo, Head of Corporate Giving - 12/21/10
2010 was an incredible year for volunteering at Life Technologies. Our employee volunteer program, called Giving Back at Life, launched in March, with a first year goal of reaching 25,000 employee volunteer hours. Life Technologies’ employees helped in science classrooms, painted fences, planted trees, hosted on-site tours, volunteered as firefighters, served meals, and hosted food drives, blood drives, and school supply drives in every Life Technologies facility on the planet.
As of today, we’ve reached 35,000 hours--surpassing our goal by over 10,000 hours (that's 40%). Translated, that means we volunteered for over four straight years non-stop. A dozen employees contributed more than 320 hours each, while our top two volunteers this year are racing to the home stretch with totals of 894 and 840 respectively.
We are looking forward to an even better 2011 for Giving Back at Life as we focus on getting our scientists out into the schools more frequently and plan for larger group service projects outside Global Volunteer Day on May 11, 2011. We plan to lead the charge in all of our global locations as the top corporate partner in every community Life Technologies operates in.
