Classical and Other Fluorophore Secondary Antibodies
Secondary antibody conjugates of classical fluorescent dyes like fluorescein (FITC), tetramethylrhodamine (TRITC), Rhodamine Red, Cy3, Cy5, and Texas Red, now have Alexa Fluor conjugate alternatives, which provide better brightness and photostability. Nevertheless, traditional dyes are still appropriate when one must maintain a proven process or requires a more affordable option. Additionally, there may be applications where these dyes are especially useful, such as taking advantage of the high rate of photobleaching or pH sensitivity of fluorescein, or when trying to replicate historic experiments.
