POROS resin Type of AEX resin Surface chemistry BSA binding capacity (mg/mL) Pore size
D50 Weak Dimethylaminopropyl 90 1,050 Å
PI50 Weak Polyethyleneimine (mixed amine) 80 2,000 Å
HQ50 Strong Quaternized polyethyleneimine (mixed amine) 75 2,000 Å
XQ Strong Fully quaternized amine >140 1,100 Å

These AEX resins can be used for a variety of applications:

  • Bind/elute: Protein, virus, and plasmid DNA purification
  • Flow/through: Trace impurity removal by binding impurities (DNA, viruses, HCP, aggregates, and endotoxins)

Figure 1. With features of high capacity, high resolution, and high salt tolerance, the anion exchange resin contributes optimized features for the best results.

POROS Anion Exchange Resins (POROS AEX resins) are designed for high-dynamic binding capacity over a range of pH and conductivity conditions, thereby increasing process development flexibility and manufacturing throughput. The 50 μm particle size provides superior resolution for unprecedented impurity clearance independent of scale and flow rate (Figure 1).

POROS AEX resins are 50 μm, rigid, polymeric, ion‑exchange chromatography resins that can be used for the chromatography of biomolecules including recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, DNA, viruses, and peptides. The resin backbone consists of cross-linked poly[styrene divinylbenzene]. A polyhydroxyl surface coating provides low nonspecific binding and different surface chemistries to provide four anion exchanger resins that are unique to the market.
