Profile review

Start your interpretation with a big-picture view of your entire project. In the Profiles screen, manage your data for single or multiple cases within one project. Here you will find an evidence and reference list, allele table, built-in electropherogram views, and sample quality information. Within this screen, you can evaluate sample quality using built-in flags such as degradation and low peak height, group samples via custom tags, combine replicate amplifications into a single sample for analysis, and set initial (analyst evaluated) and final NoC results (post-Number of Contributors analysis) for each sample.

Number of contributors

Estimating the NoC is foundational to interpretation, informing every subsequent step. GeneMapper PG Software offers a variety of algorithms to determine the number of contributors in a DNA mixture. These algorithms range from basic methods like maximum allele count (MAC) to machine learning-based decision trees. Each method provides complete transparency, allowing you to scrutinize the estimation process in detail.

Deconvolution

Modeling biological aspects of forensic DNA profiles with customizable settings for locus, laboratory, STR kit, and instrument-specific values, the mixture deconvolution step employs the biological context optimized sampling (BCOS) algorithm. This deterministic algorithm follows a framework and fixed set of rules, for efficient and consistent analysis.

The software's powerful visualization tools and real-time explanations enable detailed analysis and exploration. Instantly view electropherograms to compare observed DNA profiles with expected solutions, extract major contributors, and export CODIS-compatible files for database searches.

Compare profiles

Whether examining pattern cases or tracking QC trends, profile comparison tools streamline data analysis across projects and cases. Heat maps highlight similarities and discrepancies across profiles, while a Match Table presents a list of best matches filtered by percentage to quickly identify the most relevant profiles.

Likelihood ratio calculations

Calculate even the most complex likelihood ratio (LR) scenarios. Build the scenario, visualize the result, and drill down into the calculation details. The powerful LR Robustness tool simulates thousands of profiles, configurable to be either unrelated or a specific family relationship to the POI, to produce an empirical cumulative distribution plot of likelihood ratios. By positioning your POI’s LR against these simulations, determine whether your LR result is significant or is possibly the result of a fortuitous match.

Thermo Fisher Scientific validated GeneMapper PG Software v1.0 following the FBI Quality Assurance Standards (July 1, 2025) and guidelines from the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods (July 1, 2025). Each laboratory using GeneMapper PG Software v1.0 should perform its own internal verification or validation studies to establish interpretation criteria and demonstrate that the software is appropriate and fit for its own human identification uses.
