Thermo Fisher Scientific has proudly established Stem Cell Research Centers in Carlsbad, CA and Frederick, MD USA as well as Glasgow, Scotland. These centers provide customers with hands-on stem cell training in techniques for culturing and characterizing human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), as well as reprogramming techniques for the creation of iPSCs. Whether you are new to pluripotent stem cell research or need a refresher course, our scientists can provide detailed stem cell training so you can feel confident using stem cells in your research. |

Agenda
Each Gibco Pluripotent Stem Cell Workshop is structured as a three-day course with both lecture and hands-on laboratory work. Our expert trainers will guide you through a variety of stem cell techniques and work with you 1:1 to help ensure you are successful in learning these new methods. You will receive a detailed course guide, containing all lecture materials, laboratory protocols, and troubleshooting tips, so you can get started right away when you return to your lab. And even though we take training very seriously, we might add in some fun things for you to take home as well! |
Workshop agenda topics include:
- Basic maintenance and care of hESC and iPSCs
- Freezing, thawing, plating, and passaging techniques
- Culturing PSCs under feeder-dependent and feeder-free conditions
- Reprogramming and identification of iPSCs
- Differentiation and characterization methods for PSCs

Dr. Alexandria Sams is the training manager in the Cell Biology group at Thermo Fisher Scientific. She obtained her doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where her research focused on developing 3-dimensional, high-throughput liver models of hepatitis B infection. As a staff scientist for more than 5 years her research focused on pluripotent stem cell media and matrix development.

Mahalakshmi Sridharan is a R&D scientist in the Primary and Stem Cell Systems group at Thermo Fisher Scientific. She has a master’s degree in Stem cell technology and laboratory management from California State University and obtained another master’s degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in the same field. Previously, her experience was primarily involved in developing and characterizing induced Pluripotent Stem Cells from retinoblastoma patients. | |

Dr. Uma Lakshmipathy has been involved in the stem cell field for nearly 10 years. Her doctoral degree in molecular biophysics and subsequent postdoctorate in DNA repair led her to the promising area of stem cell research. As a junior faculty member at the University of Minnesota Stem Cell Institute, she identified efficient gene delivery methods into stem cells. She moved to Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher Scientific) in 2005 and helped develop novel cell engineering platforms. Her current research interests are regulators of stem cell maintenance and the development of new technologies for identification, characterization, and differentiation of stem cells. |

Chad MacArthur is an R&D scientist in our Primary and Stem Cell Systems group. Over the past four years, Chad’s research has focused on stem cell biology, cell engineering, reprogramming technologies, and pluripotent stem cell media development. Prior to working for Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), Chad obtained a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry at California State University–Long Beach, where his research focused on enzyme inhibitors and kinetics, drug discovery, and cell biology. |

Rene H. Quintanilla, Jr. is a Research and Development scientist for our Primary and Stem Cell Systems group. His expertise extends to gene delivery methods, reprogramming, and cellular characterizations of pluripotent stem cells. Recent interests include molecular characterization of pluripotent stem cells, workflow solutions, and protocol simplification. Prior to joining Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), he was involved in over six years of professional basic research in academia in the fields of enzymology, stem cell biochemistry and neurogenesis, molecular genomics, and kinase biochemistry. |

Dr. Gillian C Wallace has been working for over 4 years as a Senior Field Application Scientist in the Primary and Stem Cells group in Europe, focusing on pluripotent stem cells and ADME/Tox. Gillian gained her doctoral degree and focused her postdoctoral work in the field of hepatocytes and in vitro cell culture in Scotland. Prior to joining Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), she spent 7 years in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics and brings her background in the pharmaceutical industry to stem cell research. |
