Superior energy performance

We partner with trusted third-party ecolabels to validate the exceptional energy efficiency of our products, including ENERGY STAR® and the China Energy Label. Many of our freezers and refrigerators have been recognized for achieving top-tier performance standards.

For other select laboratory equipment, we report electricity consumption using the standardized energy testing protocols developed by My Green Lab. As more products earn the My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel, customers will gain greater visibility into energy performance, enabling direct comparisons between similar products.

 


Low impact refrigerants

Our commitment to reducing environmental impact extends to the refrigerants used in our products. We are redesigning our equipment with natural refrigerants that go beyond F-gas compliance, replacing high-global warming potential (GWP) gases such as HFCs and HCFCs with alternatives like carbon dioxide, ethane, and propane—each with a GWP of less than 5. This transition can reduce the environmental impact of refrigerants by more than 99%, while completely avoiding ozone depletion.

The Thermo Scientific Centrifuges featuring GreenCool™ Technology exemplify this advancement. Using carbon dioxide as a natural refrigerant, these systems deliver outstanding temperature stability to protect sample integrity and ensure precise, efficient results. Equipped with a next-generation cooling system, they demonstrate our continued leadership in sustainable innovation and performance.

The iCAP MSX ICP-MS reduces energy consumption by 28% compared to the previous model through optimized vacuum pump operation and reduced pumping speed in standby mode.

The Orbitrap Exploris mass spectrometers achieve up to 38% lower electricity use with dry vacuum pumps compared to the previous model with an oil-sealed pump, enhancing overall system efficiency.

With a Platinum ACT Ecolabel 2.0, the Thermo Scientific Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC Systems feature upgraded power supplies that enable up to a 90% reduction in electricity use during standby mode.

The QuantStudio 6 and 7 Pro Real-Time PCR Systems introduce a new idle mode feature that allows the heated cover to be turned off or temperature reduced, lowering electricity consumption by up to 25%.
