Thermo Scientific™ Smart Diffuse Reflectance accessory™ maximizes the collection of diffusely scattered radiation, while minimizing the specular effect, resulting in the highest quality spectral results. With the Smart Diffuse Reflectance accessory, a wide variety of samples can be analyzed with a minimum amount of sample preparation. With a slight amount of grinding and mixing with potassium bromide (KBr), samples of almost any type provide high quality spectra for qualitative or quantitative analysis.

Integral sample cups eliminate the need to worry about easily lost small parts, and are easy to load without the inconvenience of handling small sample cups. The accessory comes with two sample slides:
  • One has two integral sample cups within it - one position can be loaded with the sample and the other can be loaded with a reference material, such as KBr
  • Second holder has an integral gold mirror that can be used as a background reference and is ideal for use with the Si-Carb Sampling Kit

Silicon Carbide Disks: 320 and 400 grit Si-Carb adhesive-backed disks, 100 each

Includes:

Si-Carb Sampling Kit

  • Used to obtain spectra of hard, intractable samples , such as coatings, paints, and hard polymers
  • Includes adhesive-backed silicon carbide paper used to abrade the surface to be analyzed, and a handle and a sample plate to hold the paper
  • An infrared spectrum is obtained of the material clinging to the surface of the silicon carbide disk

KBr Powder Packets

  • KBr can be used to dilute samples prior to analysis
  • Contain a convenient, pre-measured quantity of dry KBr for dispersing a sample
