General Description

3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid also known as DNA or DNSA reacts with reducing sugars forming 3-amino-5-nitrosalicylic acid, which is an aromatic compound with maximum absorption at 540 nm allowing spectrophotometer measurement of the amount of reducing molecules

Applications

  • It is used in the quantification of reducing sugars by colorimetry in the blood. It is also used to analyze glycosidase (glycoside hydrolase) activity by quantitation of enzymatically released reducing sugar
  • 3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid can detect reducing substances in the urine
  • This compound is used to detect the presence of free carbonyl groups (C=O)
  • 3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid can be used to determine the effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on membrane leakage
