General Description

  • Hydroxychloroquine sulfate shows antimalarial activity against malaria parasites mainly in the intra-erythrocytic phase of its life cycle. It acts by inhibiting the heme polymerase inside the food vacuole of the parasites
  • It shows an inhibitory activity in autophagy preventing the lysosome fusion with the autophagosome
  • Some studies demonstrated that hydroxychloroquine sulfate, due to its antiviral activity can restrict HIV infection in vitro
