Luciferin is the substrate for bioluminescence reactions with firefly luciferase enzyme. Lyophilized sodium salt of firefly luciferin is stable and easily soluble, and is compatible with a wide variety of luciferase-based in vivo imaging and in vitro bioluminescent assays.
