Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What is the tolerance for the target simethicone concentration in FoamAway Irradiated AOF (animal origin-free) Antifoaming Agent and what is the maximum concentration it can have?
The target shipping percentage of simethicone in FoamAway Irradiated AOF (animal origin-free) Antifoaming Agent is 3%. This supports the defoaming assay noted on the COA for the shelf life of the product.
FoamAway Irradiated AOF (animal origin-free) Antifoaming Agent is formulated to a 4.0% simethicone concentration during manufacture, representing the upper end of the product's concentration range, to account for loss of simethicone during processing.
The final concentration of simethicone may be variable in the finished product, but is ≤4.0%. The final product must pass a defoaming activity assay as a quality release criterion, ensuring defoaming activity throughout the 8-month shelf life.
Why is the shelf life of FoamAway Irradiated AOF Antifoaming Agent (Cat. No. A1036901, A1036902) 8 months? Do you have any data on extending the expiry time frame?
Unacceptable defoam activity was observed after 8 months. Therefore, the shelf life was reduced from 12 to 8 months from the date of irradiation in 2019.
What type of connectors are used in FoamAway Irradiated AOF (animal origin-free) Antifoaming Agent?
What is your usage recommendation for FoamAway Irradiated AOF (animal origin-free) Antifoaming Agent?
We recommend shaking to thoroughly mix the product before each addition. Approximately 1:1,000 dilution may be the midrange of the working concentration, about 30 ppm. The range may be about a 1:20,000 to 1:600 depending on the process. For an extended culture, we recommend re-adding material during the run as it is incorporated with the foaming components; we recommend adding as little as possible to keep the downstream processes functioning.
