1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic acid is used as a cross linking agent to prepare cotton cellulose in order to improve anti-prilling and flame retardant properties. It is used as a spacer in the cross-linking of titania nanoparticles to cotton. Further, it is used as a nonformaldehyde durable press finishing agent.

Aplicaciones
el ácido 1,2,3,4-butanetracarboxílico se utiliza como agente de entrecruzamiento para preparar celulosa de algodón con el fin de mejorar las propiedades antiperla y pirorretardante. Se utiliza como espaciador en la unión entrecruzada de nanopartículas de titania con algodón. Además, se utiliza como agente de acabado de prensa duradero sin formaldehído.
