Tritolyl phosphate, mixture of isomers is used as plasticizer in nitrocellulose, acrylate lacquers, and in polyvinyl chloride. It is a fire retardant for plastics and rubbers. air filter medium, solvent mixtures and heat exchange medium. It is employed as a gasoline additive and as a lead scavenger for tetraethyllead. Further, it acts as a solvent for extraction, especially for nitrocellulose and polymers. In addition to this, it is used for the waterproofing of materials, an antiwear and extreme pressure additive in lubricants and hydraulic fluids.

Miscible with organic solvents. Immiscible with water.

Notes
Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, sulfuric acid, caustics, ammonia, aliphatic amines, alkanolamines, isocyanates, alkylene oxides, epichlorohydrin and nitromethane.
