The red-fluorescent BODIPY TR C5 ceramide complexed to BSA can be used in sphingolipid transport and metabolism mechanisms. Complexing fluorescent lipids with bovine serum albuin (BSA) facilitates cell labeling by eliminating the need for organic solvents to dissolve the lipophilic probe - the BSA-complexed probe can be directly dissolved in water.

Abstract
Regulation of membrane expansion at the nerve growth cone.
Authors:Pfenninger KH, Laurino L, Peretti D, Wang X, Rosso S, Morfini G, Cáceres A, Quiroga S,
Journal:J Cell Sci
PubMed ID:12615964
Exocytotic incorporation of plasmalemmal precursor vesicles (PPVs) into the cell surface is necessary for neurite extension and is known to occur mainly at the growth cone. This report examines whether this is a regulated event controlled by growth factors. The Golgi complex and nascent PPVs of hippocampal neurons in culture ... More
Role of the CDC25 homology domain of phospholipase Cepsilon in amplification of Rap1-dependent signaling.
Authors:Jin TG, Satoh T, Liao Y, Song C, Gao X, Kariya K, Hu CD, Kataoka T
Journal:J Biol Chem
PubMed ID:11395506
Phospholipase Cepsilon (PLCepsilon) is a novel class of phosphoinositide-specific PLC characterized by possession of CDC25 homology and Ras/Rap1-associating domains. We and others have shown that human PLCepsilon is translocated from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane and activated by direct association with Ras at its Ras/Rap1-associating domain. In addition, translocation ... More
The caveolae-mediated sv40 entry pathway bypasses the golgi complex en route to the endoplasmic reticulum.
Authors:Norkin LC, Kuksin D
Journal:Virol J
PubMed ID:15840166
'BACKGROUND: Simian virus 40 (SV40) enters cells via an atypical caveolae-mediated endocytic pathway, which delivers the virus to a new intermediary compartment, the caveosome. The virus then is believed to go directly from the caveosome to the endoplasmic reticulum. Cholera toxin likewise enters via caveolae and traffics to caveosomes. But, ... More
Centrosome localization determines neuronal polarity.
Authors:de Anda FC, Pollarolo G, Da Silva JS, Camoletto PG, Feiguin F, Dotti CG
Journal:Nature
PubMed ID:16079847
'Neuronal polarization occurs shortly after mitosis. In neurons differentiating in vitro, axon formation follows the segregation of growth-promoting activities to only one of the multiple neurites that form after mitosis. It is unresolved whether such spatial restriction makes use of an intrinsic program, like during C. elegans embryo polarization, or ... More
Two-photon fluorescence absorption and emission spectra of dyes relevant for cell imaging.
Authors:Bestvater F, Spiess E, Stobrawa G, Hacker M, Feurer T, Porwol T, Berchner-Pfannschmidt U, Wotzlaw C, Acker H
Journal:J Microsc
PubMed ID:12423261
'Two-photon absorption and emission spectra for fluorophores relevant in cell imaging were measured using a 45 fs Ti:sapphire laser, a continuously tuneable optical parametric amplifier for the excitation range 580-1150 nm and an optical multichannel analyser. The measurements included DNA stains, fluorescent dyes coupled to antibodies as well as organelle ... More
