Isolate and enumerate yeasts and molds associated with food spoilage with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Pre-supplemented Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) (ISO) Agar Base (Dehydrated) while adhering to ISO 21527-1: 2008. Due to the presence of antibiotic Chloramphenicol in the formulation, the medium provides selectivity against bacteria as well as reducing harmful chemical handling in the laboratory.
Use Pre-supplemented Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) Agar Base for selective isolation and enumeration of viable yeast and molds in food products with a water activity above 0.95 aW.
- Adheres to ISO 21527-1: 2008 standards.
- Selective for viable yeast and mold samples in food samples.
DRBC (ISO) is a modification of the original Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol Medium
1 and differs as the Rose-Bengal content has been optimized by adding Dichloran and by changing the pH to 5.6.
The inclusion of chloramphenicol in this medium suppresses bacterial growth, allowing molds, and yeasts to grow. The inhibition of spreading molds and the restriction of their colony size results in improved enumeration and detection. The reduced pH of DRBC (ISO) Agar increases the inhibition of yeasts by the rose-bengal. Pre-supplemented DRBC (ISO) Agar contains 0.1g per litre chloramphenicol in the agar base. This removes the need for supplementation and handling of the chloramphenicol.
