Description

Laemmli SDS sample buffer is used for protein sample preparation, which is used in the Laemmli SDS-PAGE system. It is a widely used system for protein electrophoresis. Further, it is employed in the polyacrylamide gel analysis of proteins. In addition to this, it is utilized to reduce disulfide bonds in order to denature proteins.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Description

• Laemmli SDS sample buffer is composed of several compounds, including 375 mM Tris-HCl (pH 6.8), 9% SDS, 50% glycerol, 6% β-mercaptoethanol, 0.03% bromophenol blue
• The SDS compound present in the Laemmli SDS sample buffer binds noncovalently to proteins. SDS is negatively charged and can mask the intrinsic charge of the protein it binds

Application

• Laemmli SDS sample buffer is used to denature proteins and for protein sample preparation to be used in the SDS-PAGE system
• This sample buffer is used as an electrophoretic dye for denaturation of proteins and monitoring the front of the running gel
• It is also used for polyacrylamide protein gel analysis
