| PB0835A | Columbia Blood Agar with 8mg/L Aztreonam |
Cultivate and isolate a wide variety of fastidious microorganisms with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Blood Agar with 8mg/L Aztreonam. Columbia Agar is an ideal base medium for the addition of blood, especially in selective formulations when supplemented with antimicrobial agents. The addition of defibrinated horse blood and Aztreonam, in this case, facilitates the selective cultivation of Gram-positive fastidious microorganisms.
Traditionally, blood agar bases have been either casein hydrolysate or meat infusion media. The advantage of the first lies in the rapid production of large colonies and of the second in clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation. Columbia Blood Agar with 8mg/L Aztreonam combines the virtues of both of these types of media to give an improved all-round performance, showing versatility and superior performance in several applications.1
