Blood Agar (TSA w/5% Sheep Blood) is suitable for the cultivation of fastidious aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, the latter of which can be grown in either deep cultures or by incubation under anaerobic conditions. While EMB Agar (Levine) is a versatile medium used for the differentiation of Escherichia coli and Enterobacteria aerogenes and also for rapid identification of Candida albicans.

• EMB Agar (Levine) is recommended for the detection, enumeration, and differentiation of members of the coliform group by American Public health Association.
• EMB Agar (Levine) makes the results easy to read. Due to Eosin–Y and methylene blue indicators Escherichia coli (purple colonies with a green metallic sheen) are easy to differentiate from Enterobacteria aerogenes (purple mucoid colonies).
