Rubber calendering is a complex process that requires a modular measurement and control strategy that can be configured to almost any tire calender. The Thermo Scientific™ 21PlusHD Measurement and Control System for Rubber & Vinyl Calendering provides accurate, reliable measurement of the basis weight or thickness of materials used in rubber tire manufacturing including gum, fabric and wire. With a highly efficient two or three zone calender control system, the 21PlusHD ensures each component of the tire meets strict manufacturing guidelines and high quality standards.

The 21PlusHD Measurement and Control System for Rubber and Vinyl Calendering consists of a scanner, sensor and control system (if applicable) tailored to each application.

System Components for Various Applications:

  • Gum Calender: Thermo Scientific™ Mark III scanner, Thermo Scientific™ Beta Plus sensor and calender control with Feed Forward.
  • Textile Calender: Multilayer measurement using Box Beam Scanner, Terahertz optical sensor and Z calender control.
  • Textile/Wire Calender: Multilayer measurement using Box Beam Scanner, Terahertz optical sensor, Beta Plus sensor or X-Ray Master sensor, and Dual Gap calender control with Feed Forward and Absolute Gap Preset.
  • Wire Calender: Mark III scanner, Beta Plus sensor with Feed Forward and Absolute Gap Preset.
  • Vinyl Calender: Mark III scanner, Beta Plus sensor and calender control with Feed Forward.

Operator Interface:

WonderWare HMI. Operator stations are PC-based and communicate with other system modules across an Ethernet LAN. Desktop interface and/or console configurations are available.

Communication Capabilities:

The 21PlusHD System provides powerful communication capabilities with industry-accepted OPC standards, allowing the sharing of product and process data with popular software packages for data acquisition, database building and quality analysis.
