With the Varioskan ALF Multimode Microplate Reader, fluorescence and certain luminescence measurements are performed with filter-based optics for optimal specificity and sensitivity. The system comes with three pre-installed excitation and emission filter sets suitable for many common fluorometric applications like Quant-iT DNA quantitation assays and PrestoBlue and AlamarBlue cell viability assays. Additionally, five open filter pair positions are available for customized fluorometric and luminometric applications such as measurement of various Alexa Fluor™ and other common dyes or Promega NanoBRET™ assays. The filters are available as predefined, carefully tested, and validated filter sets, to ensure the optimal performance of selected assays.

Varioskan ALF instrument includes the following factory installed fluorometric filter pairs:

  • Coumarin family filter pair
    • Excitation 345 nm, emission 450 nm
  • Fluorescein family filter pair
    • Excitation 485, emission 525 nm
  • Resorufin family filter pair
    • Excitation 555 nm, emission 615 nm

In addition to factory installed filters, a range of validated filter sets are available for various fluorometric and luminometric applications.

  • Filter sets consists of high transmission filters for high excitation and emission efficiency.
  • Filter sets are designed to efficiently block unwanted light as well as unwanted emitted light to ensure high signal and low background.
