Selenite Cystine Broth Base is an enrichment medium for the isolation of salmonellae from feces and food products.

• Cystine reduces the toxicity of selenite and provides extra organic sulphur, which spares critical sulphur components of the bacteria
• Formulation recommended by the AOAC³ for detection of Salmonella in foodstuffs
• Included in the standard methods media of the American Public Health Association^{4, 5}
• Complies with the requirements of the United States Pharmacopoeia⁶

Selenite Cystine Broth Base is a modification of the formulation described by Leifson¹ with cysteine and is used as an enrichment culture for salmonellae from feces, foodstuffs, and other materials.
