The Non-esterified Free Fatty Acids (NEFA/FFA) Colorimetric Assay Kit is a highly reliable and sensitive assay designed for the quantitative measurement of NEFA in animal tissue samples. NEFAs are derived from adiopose tissue, where hormone-sensitive lipase decomposes triglycerides to product fatty acids. These acids circulate freely in the body and, when combined with plasma albumin, can be used as an energy sourced for muscles, organs, and the brain. They are also a substrate of fat synthesis, where the concentration of NEFAs is related to metabolism and endocrine function.

In this assay NEFA react with nantokite to form copper soap, which has a specific absorption peak at 715 nm. The content of NEFA can be calculated indirectly by measuring the OD value.
