The Ion GeneStudio™ S5 Prime system is a semiconductor-based next-generation sequencing (NGS) system that enables simple, high-throughput targeted sequencing workflows. Designed for core laboratories and service providers requiring maximum sequencing capacity and rapid turnaround time from a benchtop NGS system, the Ion GeneStudio S5 Prime system delivers exceptional flexibility for applications ranging from small to large targeted gene panels, including panels for comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), to exomes, transcriptomics, and clinical oncology research requiring deep sequencing and low allele frequency variant detection, such as liquid biopsy.
With cartridge-based reagents and the flexible Ion 6 Series chip portfolio, including the new high-capacity Ion 560™ Chip, the system is simple to use while offering unmatched scalability and throughput. The Ion GeneStudio S5 Prime System supports a broad range of targeted DNA sequencing and RNA sequencing applications for clinical research and research, from microbial genomes and targeted gene panels to exomes and transcriptomes.
The Ion GeneStudio™ S5 Prime System includes an external Server making it the ideal choice for laboratories looking for faster analysis time while taking advantage of the larger 550 and 560 Chips. It can support running up to 2 550 or 560 Chips per day.
Key features:
The Ion GeneStudio™ S5 systems
The Ion GeneStudio™ S5 systems share the same foundational semiconductor sequencing technology and fluidic architecture across all three instruments: the Ion GeneStudio™ S5 system, the Ion GeneStudio™ S5 Plus system, and the Ion GeneStudio™ S5 Prime system. The primary difference across the three instruments is on-sequencer analysis speed and supported Chips. While the GeneStudio™ S5 Plus and Prime systems can run any of the Chips, from the 510 to the 560, the GeneStudio™ base model can only support the 510, 520, 530 and 540 Chips.
Speed
The Ion GeneStudio S5 system leverages the speed of semiconductor sequencing to produce high-quality sequencing data in just a few hours. When paired with the Ion Chef™ system, laboratories can go from library preparation to sequencing data in as little as 24 hours with approximately 45 minutes of total hands-on time.
Simplicity
With single-day installation, a straightforward user interface, and cartridge-based reagents, the Ion GeneStudio S5 systems are easy to use benchtop sequencers. Combined with Ion AmpliSeq™ technology for targeted panel design, the Ion Chef™ system for automated library and template preparation, and Ion Reporter™ Software for automated variant annotation, targeted NGS workflows are simpler than ever.
Small sample input
Low-input DNA and RNA from challenging sample types—including formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue, fine needle aspirates, and circulating cell-free DNA and RNA (cfDNA/cfRNA)—can be difficult to sequence on other next-generation sequencing platforms. With Ion AmpliSeq technology and the Ion GeneStudio S5 Series, laboratories can sequence with as little as 1 ng of DNA or RNA input.
Scalability
Why purchase multiple sequencing systems when one platform can support all your targeted sequencing needs? The Ion 6 Series chip portfolio—including the new Ion 560 Chip—provides multiple throughput options so laboratories can efficiently scale from small research studies to high-volume sequencing projects. Choose the sequencing output that best matches your application, from small targeted panels to comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), transcriptomics, and custom AmpliSeq™ workflows, while maintaining the same simple workflow.
Simple analysis solutions
Torrent Suite™ Software and Ion Reporter™ Software make NGS data analysis accessible for both new and experienced users. Plan, monitor, track, and analyze sequencing runs using Torrent Suite Software (pre-installed on the Sequencer). Integrate, annotate, and interpret variants using Ion Reporter Software, available as either a cloud-based or local deployment. LIMS connectivity services, including API training and implementation support, help laboratories integrate sequencing workflows into existing laboratory information systems.
