Differentiate micrococci and staphylococci using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Furazolidone Discs. Furazolidone is a nitrofuran antibacterial agent. Furazilidone susceptibility testing is a reliable method for differentiation of micrococci (resistant) and staphylococci (sensitive).1
Staphylococcus and Micrococcus are Gram-positive, non-motile, and non-sporing and catalyse positive cocci. Both of these microorganisms form the normal flora of skin and mucous membranes of man and animals, the members of the genus Staphylococcus are associated with the clinical infections, the members of Micrococcus are rarely involved in infections.
