Preguntas frecuentes
I am doing blood work and using the Tempus collection tubes. Is the Tempus system compatible with the RiboPure-Blood RNA Purification Kit?
No, please follow the RNA isolation methods described with the Tempus system. The collection tubes are not compatible with the RiboPure kit.
What is the recommended storage temperature and stability of samples in the Tempus Blood RNA Tube?
Our general recommendations are that once blood has been collected in the Tempus Blood RNA Tubes, you can store the tube at room temperature for up to 5 days or at 4 degrees C for up to 7 days. For long term storage, the tube can be frozen at -80 degrees C for at least 1.5 years.
Do you offer the Stabilizing Reagent that comes inside the Tempus Blood RNA Tube (Cat. No. 4342792) as a stand-alone item?
We do not offer the Stabilizing Reagent that comes inside the Tempus Blood RNA Tube as a stand-alone item.
Can animal blood stored in Tempus Blood RNA Tubes or PAXgene tubes be prepared with the MagMAX for Stabilized Blood Tubes RNA Isolation Kits (Cat. Nos. 4451893 & 4451894)?
Equine whole blood has been successfully tested using this system, getting RINs around 9. Bovine blood should work similarly since there is not much of a difference between the two species for RNA isolation from whole blood, but this has not been tested. The protocol would be the same as the user guide and samples should be mixed vigorously immediately after blood is drawn into the tube for at least 10 secs, incorporating tube inversion to be sure the sample is stabilized.
Will the RNA stabilization solution in the Tempus Blood RNA Tube (Cat. No. 4342792) lyse E. coli cells that are in the blood samples?
The RNA stabilization solution in Tempus Blood RNA Tubes will not lyse E. coli cells at ambient temperature. If lysis of gram-negative bacteria is desired, mix the sample thoroughly with the RNA stabilization solution, and heat the lysate at 95 degrees C for 5 mins.
'Multicenter studies involving both large and small centers separated by significant distances pose unique challenges to biological sample collection. The objective of this study was to evaluate protocols for determining inflammatory biomarkers that are cost and manpower efficient for handling blood destined for a sample repository. 'Gene expression profiling from peripheral blood is a valuable tool for biomarker discovery in clinical studies. Different whole blood RNA collection and processing methods are highly variable and might confound comparisons of results across studies. The main aim of the study was to compare genome-wide gene expression profiles obtained from ... More
High alpha-defensin levels in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

'Innate immunity plays a role in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Our objective was to determine the levels of defensins, which are antimicrobial and immunomodulatory polypeptides, in SLE. Sera from SLE patients and healthy controls were tested for pro-inflammatory human beta-defensin 2 (hBD-2) and for alpha-defensin human neutrophil peptide 1 (HNP-1). ... More
Abnormalities in the circadian clockwork often characterize patients with major depressive and bipolar disorders. Circadian clock genes are targets of interest in these patients. CRY2 is a circadian gene that participates in regulation of the evening oscillator. This is of interest in mood disorders where a lack of switch from ... More

RNA isolation and purification steps greatly influence the results of gene expression profiling. There are two commercially available products for whole blood RNA collection, PAXgene and Tempus blood collection tubes, and each comes with their own RNA purification method. In both systems the blood is immediately lysed when collected into ... More
