Legionella BCYE Medium/TSA with Sheep Blood

Confirm Legionella from water testing samples using the biplate combination Thermo Scientific™ Legionella BCYEα Medium, a non-selective medium that exhibits optimal recovery of legionellaceae and Thermo Scientific™ TSA with Sheep Blood, which does not allow the growth of Legionella according to ISO 11731.

With the use of the biplate you can save up space in the incubator and reduce further waste of the plastic wrap and petri dish. The biplate combination allows a quick overview of the sample and faster hands-on-time for Legionella confirmation.

Legionella are aerobic, motile, nutritionally fastidious, pleomorphic, gram-negative rods that require special growth factors in culture media to grow. Transmission occurs through aerosolization or aspiration of contaminated water, not person to person. Legionellosis refers to two distinct clinical syndromes, Legionnaires’ disease, which most often presents as severe pneumonia, and Pontiac fever, which is an acute, febrile, self-limiting, viral-like illness. Over forty species of Legionella have been characterized, however, Legionella pneumophila remains the most prevalent etiological agent of Legionnaires’ disease. Legionella can be isolated from respiratory tract secretions of all types and sterile body fluids such as blood and biopsy material.
