General Description
• Tetracycline hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of
the antibiotic tetracycline
• Tetracycline blocks amino acyl-tRNA binding during
bacterial protein synthesis
• Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum naphthacene antibiotic that
inhibits growth of both gram positive and gram negative bacteria
Applications
• Tetracycline may be used as a selection agent in cell
culture
• It may also be used to activate inducible gene
expression in engineered cells
