Hibernate-A Medium is a specialized CO2-independent nutrient medium designed for the maintenance and preservation of neural cells, tissues, and slices. Optimized for adult and postnatal neural samples, this medium supports neurons in ambient carbon dioxide conditions for up to 48 hours. This feature provides researchers with enhanced flexibility and control during experiments and transportation. Hibernate-A Medium allows you to run bench-top live cell experiments, such as microscopy, flow cytometry, and other physiology studies.

Benefits

  • CO2 independence—eliminates the need for CO2 incubation for up to 48 hours, simplifying the maintenance and processing of neural cultures and tissues
  • Convenience and flexibility—ideal for experiments that require extended handling times outside of CO2 incubators, offering greater convenience for researchers
  • Transportation of neural samples—provides a reliable medium for the shipment of neural tissues, helping ensure their stability and viability upon arrival
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What medium can be used to maintain/manipulate neurons at ambient CO2?

We offer Gibco Hibernate Medium for this purpose. When supplemented with Gibco B-27 Supplement and Gibco GlutaMAX-1 Supplement, this medium can allow for the manipulation of neurons at ambient CO2 for at least 48 hours while retaining their viability, and preserve viable brain tissue for up to a month when stored at 4 degrees C. Two Hibernate media are offered:

- Gibco Hibernate-A Medium (Cat. No. A1247501) is formulated for postnatal neurons.
- Gibco Hibernate-E Medium (Cat. No. A1247601) is formulated for embryonic neurons.

These two media have the same formulation and differ only in osmolality.

Patient-derived tumor organoids have been leveraged for disease modeling and preclinical studies but rarely applied in real time to aid with interpretation of patient treatment responses in clinics. We recently demonstrated early efficacy signals in a first-in-human, phase 1 study of dual-targeting chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells (EGFR-IL13Rα2 CAR-T cells) ... More
