The Human Dendritic Cell Cytokine Package contains IL-4 and GM-CSF, key components required for the culturing of human dendritic cells. Recombinant human IL-4 is an essential cytokine used in the differentiation and maturation of human dendritic cell in vitro. The IL-4 protein, specifically the recombinant IL-4, promotes the development of dendritic cells from precursor cells such as monocytes. Human IL-4 acts synergistically with other factors, including GM-CSF (Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor), to drive the differentiation process. Typically, monocytes are cultured in the presence of recombinant IL-4 and GM-CSF to yield immature dendritic cells, which can then be futher matured by additional stimuli.

The package contains the following two vials:

  • 100 μg Human IL-4 (Cat. No. 200-04-100UG)
  • 100 μg Human GM-CSF (Cat. No. 300-03-100UG)

Human IL-4 protein is a pleiotropic cytokine that regulates diverse T and B cell responses including cell proliferation, survival, and gene expression. Produced by mast cells, T cells, and bone marrow stromal cells, Human IL-4 regulates the differentiation of naive CD4+ T cells into helper Th2 cells.

GM-CSF is a hematopoietic growth factor that stimulates the development of neutrophils and macrophages and promotes the proliferation and development of early erythroid megakaryocytic and eosinophilic progenitor cells.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Which cytokines show cross-species activity?

With a few exceptions, most human cytokines are active on mouse cells. Many mouse cytokines are active on human cells, but may show lower specific activity than the corresponding human cytokine. The interferons, GM-CSF, IL-3, and IL-4 are known to be species-specific with very little, if any, activity on non-homologous cells. In contrast, the FGFs and neurotrophins are very highly conserved and show excellent activity on cells of other animal species.
