Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What do the "50% compressed" and "100% compressed" designations mean in the description for Carbon black, acetylene?

The designation of compression is a generic description of density via mechanical compression of Carbon black when manufactured. Carbon black, acetylene is difficult to densify due to its high structure and the production process. As a result, compression is used to press air out of the powder and allow the density to be recorded. Based on the percentage of compression (50% or 100%), the density can be recorded and used to generate a higher-than-normal density:

  • Carbon black, acetylene, 100% compressed (Cat. No. 045527.xx) has a density of 135-160 g/L
  • Carbon black, acetylene, 50% compressed, 99.9+% (Cat. No. 039724.xx) has a density of 90-121 g/L
