The Applied Biosystems VetMAX Influenza A Virus Detection Kit 2.0 enables real-time reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) detection of avian influenza virus (AIV) in avian species, including both wild and domestic birds. The kit detects AIV in extracted RNA from cellular samples, organs, swabs (oropharyngeal, tracheal, cloacal), FTA™ cards, and environmental samples such as fecal swabs, wipes, and boot covers. For organs and swabs, pooling of up to ten samples is also validated.

The kit provides ready-to-use reagents for single-well, real-time RT-PCR detection of three targets using fluorescent hydrolysis probes chemistry. The targets are AIV and two internal positive controls (endogenous and exogenous).

Features of the VetMAX Influenza A Virus Detection Kit 2.0 include:

  • Fast—compatible with Express extraction (20 min script) and Fast amplification (<1 h) programs for validated matrices, including a ready-to-use master mix
  • Flexibility—validated for a broad range of sample types, including organs, swabs, FTA™ cards, and environmental samples. Pooling is an option for organs and swabs
  • New up-to-date design—developed using up-to-date global AIV sequence information for broad and reliable detection across currently known strains
  • Comprehensive controls—includes endogenous and exogenous RNA controls to enable confidence and reliability in labs results

Kit contents

  • Mix Influenza A 2.0: A ready-to-use RT-PCR master mix optimized for triplex amplification of AIV and two internal positive control targets (endogenous and exogenous). It contains buffers, enzymes, primers, dUTP, UNG, and TaqMan probes. It includes ROX dye as a passive reference.
  • EPC Influenza A 2.0: Contains RNA templates with AIV and Xeno internal positive control (IPC) target sequences. It serves as an external positive control (EPC). The AIV target is used to set the validation criteria for test results.
  • IPC Influenza A 2.0: Contains RNA templates with Xeno IPC (exogenous IPC) target sequences that can be added to each sample and control before the RNA extraction procedure. It serves as a control for the RNA extraction and to monitor for the presence of PCR inhibitors.
  • Negative Control: Nuclease‐free water that serves as the no-template control (NTC) for the PCR reactions
