Blood Agar Base No.2 with Horse Blood

Cultivate and isolate fastidious pathogens and other microorganisms with clearly visible hemolytic reactions with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Blood Agar Base No.2 with Horse Blood. The specially designed formulation meets the need for a nutritious blood agar which permits maximum recovery of delicate organisms without interfering with their hemolytic reactions. Added defibrinated horse blood provides additional growth factors and enables the determination of hemolytic patterns.

Use Blood Agar Base No. 2 with Horse Blood for the recovery of fastidious organisms without interfering with their hemolytic reactions. The medium utilizes Thermo Scientific™Oxoid™ Blood Agar Base No.2 as a base medium.

• Exhibits superior growth promoting properties and enhanced pigment formation in chromogenic bacteria.
• Supports luxuriant early colonial development of fastidious organisms, particularly streptococci and pneumococci.
• Allows determination of hemolytic reaction patterns with the addition of defibrinated horse blood.

In comparison with fresh digest agar, Blood Agar Base No.2 shows equal or superior growth promoting properties and enhanced pigment formation in bacteria. Comparison with many other blood agars has shown that with Oxoid Blood Agar Base No.2 growth of many bacteria is considerably improved, especially the fastidious streptococci and pneumococci, as demontrated by luxuriant and early colonial development.
