Cultivate, isolate and identify a range of microorganisms while isolating Haemophilus spp. from clinical specimens using this convenient bi-plate.
Cultivate, isolate and identify a broad range of microorganisms with clearly defined zones of hemolysis while simultaneously isolating Haemophilus spp. from clinical specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Agar with Horse Blood/Columbia Agar with Chocolate Horse Blood & Bacitracin Biplate. The convenient biplate format allows simultaneous detection of fastidious and non-fastidious pathogens and facilitates streamlined cultivation of Haemophilus
Traditionally, blood agar bases have been either casein hydrolysate or meat infusion media. The advantage of the first lies in the rapid production of large colonies, and of the second in clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation. Columbia Agar combines the virtues of both these types of media to give improved all-round performance, showing versatility and superior performance in several applications.
Columbia Agar with Horse Blood promotes rapid production of large colonies, clearly defined zones of hemolysis and good colonial differentiation due to the addition of horse blood.
In Columbia Agar with Chocolate Horse Blood & Bacitracin, chocolated horse blood is added to the general purpose Columbia Agar to supply the required nutrients for the growth of Haemophilus. Bacitracin is added as a selective agent to aid isolation of Haemophilus influenzae and overcome overgrowth of competing flora from the respiratory tract.
