Columbia Agar with 5% Sheep Blood/Gardnerella Vaginalis Selective Medium Biplate

Cultivate and isolate fastidious microorganisms with clearly visible hemolytic reactions while simultaneously isolating and identifying Gardnerella vaginalis from clinical specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Agar with 5% Sheep Blood/Gardnerella Vaginalis Selective Medium Biplate. The convenient biplate format allows simultaneous detection of Gram-negative, Gram-positive organisms and, Gardnerella vaginalis for faster diagnostic decision making.

Produce more diagnostic details of pathogenic organisms while reducing storage capacity issue in the incubator with a bi-plate that allows simultaneous isolation and detection of Gram-negative, Gram-positive organisms and Gardnerella vaginalis.

Columbia Agar with Blood on one side of the plate contains 5% sheep blood to promote growth of fastidious organisms with clearly visible haemolysis forms for staphylococci and streptococci, and it gives typical growth for S. pneumoniae (dent morphology).

Gardnerella vaginalis Selective Medium on the other side of the plate is a selective medium containing a special blood agar base designed to enhance the growth of fastidious organisms while maintaining osmotic balance. Erythrocytes in the medium act as nutritional and diagnostic criterion for the production of Beta haemolysis, with Tween 80 added to improve the size of the haemolytic zones. Accompanying flora is inhibited by Gentamicin, Nalidixic acid and Amphotericin B.
