Columbia CAP Agar with Sheep Blood Medium /Brilliance™ MRSA 2 Agar Biplate

• The presence of colistin in the Columbia CAP Agar with Sheep Blood inhibits the growth of a large portion of Gram-negative accompanying flora allowing easier identification of Staphylococcus aureus.

• Brilliance MRSA 2 Agar can be inoculated from a screening swab taken from hospital patient or staff, from an isolated colony or from a liquid suspension. MRSA grows as blue colonies which are very easy to read against the light colored, opaque background.
• Plates are incubated at 37ºC, and provide high sensitivity and specificity, with results available in just 18 hours. This allows a rapid response, so enabling the patient to receive the most appropriate treatment as early as possible, reducing the risk of onward transmission of infection.
• Accuracy minimizes costs by helping to ensure that only those in need receive what can be costly treatment.

The Columbia Agar with blood formulation on one side of the plate contains 5% sheep blood to promote the growth of fastidious organisms with clearly visible hemolysis forms for staphylococci and streptococci, and it gives typical growth for S. pneumoniae (dent morphology).

Brilliance MRSA 2 Agar on the other side of the plate allows you to obtain faster results for the presence of MRSA with no need for reincubation of negatives. Get more reliable, more accurate results with this enhanced media formulation which contains two chromogens that differentiate MRSA and non-MRSA by distinctive blue colonies and produces larger MRSA colony growth compared to previous formulations.
