Hexanoic acid is used to prepare esters by reacting with alcohols, which finds application in artificial flavors. It is also involved in the production of hexylphenols, hexanoates and caproates. Further, it is used as non-viral gene carrier as well as to protect tomato plants from Botrytis cinerea.

Aplicaciones
El ácido hexanoico se utiliza para preparar ésteres al reaccionar con alcoholes que se aplican en la creación de sabores artificiales. También participa en la producción de hexilfenoles, hexanoatos y caproatos. Además, se utiliza como portador de genes no virales, así como para proteger las plantas de tomate de Botrytis cinerea.

Solubilidad
Miscible con éter dietílico y etanol. Ligeramente miscible con agua.

Notas
Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Incompatible con bases, agentes oxidantes, agentes reductores y alcohol alílico.
