Descripción

p-Toluenesulfonyl chloride is used as a precursor in the production of dyes and saccharin. It acts as a dehydrating agent in the conversion of urea to carbodiimide and converts alcohols into the corresponding toluenesulfonate esters. It is also employed as a flow-promoting agent for paints, an adhesive, nitrocellulose, coating material and as a plasticizer for polyamides. Furthermore, it serves as an antistatic agent, as a gloss enhancer in plastic film preparations and as a basic material of electroplating solutions.

Aplicaciones
El cloruro de p-toluensulfonilo se utiliza como precursor en la producción de colorantes y sacarina. Actúa como agente deshidratador en la conversión de urea a carbodiimida y convierte alcoholes en ésteres de toluensulfonato correspondientes. También se emplea como agente promotor de flujo para pinturas, adhesivo, nitrocelulosa, material de revestimiento y como plastificador para poliamidas. Además, sirve como agente antiestático, potenciador de brillo en preparaciones de película plástica y material básico de soluciones de galvanoplastia.

Solubilidad
soluble en alcohol, benceno y éter. No soluble en agua.

Sensible a la humedad. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes y bases fuertes.
