Descripción
Dimethyl oxalate is used as an alternate fuel in the direct oxidation fuel cell. It is involved in the catalytic hydrogenation using Cu/SiO2 to prepare ethylene glycol. It is also used in the selective gas-phase hydrogenation catalyzed by Ag/SiO2 to get the corresponding alcohol.

Aplicaciones
El oxalato de dimetilo se utiliza como combustible alternativo en la célula de combustible de oxidación directa. Participa en la hidrogenación catalítica utilizando Cu/SiO2 para preparar glicol etilénico. También se utiliza en la hidrogenación selectiva en fase gaseosa catalizada por Ag/SiO2 para obtener el alcohol correspondiente.
Solubilidad
Soluble en etanol. Ligeramente soluble en agua.

Sensible a la humedad. Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes, ácidos, bases y agentes reductores.
