Descripción

(±)-2-Octanol is used in flavors, paints and coatings, defoaming agent, low-volatility solvent, lubricants, fuels, paints and coatings. It is used as a frother in mineral floatation and wetting agent. It acts as an intermediate in the preparation of surfactants, cosmetic emollients esters and plasticizers. Further, it is also used as a reagent in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds and piperine derivatives. In addition to this, it is considered as an alternative of 2-ethylhexanol.

Aplicaciones
(+)-2-el octanol se utiliza en sabores, pinturas y revestimientos, agentes antiespumantes, disolventes de baja volatilidad, lubricantes y combustibles. Se utiliza como espumante en la flotación de minerales y como agente humidificante. Actúa como intermediario en la preparación de surfactantes, ésteres de emolientes cosméticos y plastificadores. Además, también se utiliza como reactivo en la síntesis de compuestos farmacéuticos y derivados de la piperina. Por otra parte, se considera una alternativa al 2-etilhexanol.

Solubilidad
miscible con éter dietílico, acetona, alcohol, los disolventes orgánicos más comunes, hidrocarburos aromáticos y alifáticos. Ligeramente miscible con agua fría.

Notas
incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes.
