5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) is a thymidine analog used to label DNA. It is incorporated into newly synthesized DNA in place of thymidine during the S phase of the cell cycle. Cells that were actively proliferating can then be detected by denaturing the DNA and allowing specific antibodies to target the BrdU incorporation. Consequently 5-BrdU is used to study cell signaling and other processes that induce cell proliferation.

Aplicaciones
La 5-bromo-2′-desoxiuridina (BrdU) es un análogo de la timidina utilizado para etiquetar el ADN. Se incorpora al ADN recién sintetizado en lugar de la timidina durante la fase S del ciclo celular. Entonces las células que proliferaban activamente pueden detectarse al desnaturalizar el ADN y permitir que determinados anticuerpos se dirijan a la incorporación de BrdU. En consecuencia, la 5-BrdU se utiliza para estudiar la señalización celular y otros procesos que inducen a la proliferación celular.
