Fluorene is used in the preparation of dyes such as 2,7-diiodofluorene, 2-aminofluorene and 3,6-bis-(dimethylamino)fluorine as well as resins. It acts as a precursor to other fluorene compounds and to prepare fluorenone. It is utilized in the study of the extraction of specific semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes. Its polymer, polyfluorene finds application in electrically conductive and electroluminescent as well as in solar cells. In addition to this, it is used as a luminophore inorganic light-emitting diodes

Aplicaciones
El fluoreno se utiliza en la preparación de colorantes como 2,7-diyodofluoreno, 2-aminofluoreno y 3,6-bis-(dimetilamino)flúor, así como resinas. Actúa como precursor de otros compuestos de fluoreno y para preparar fluorenona. Se utiliza en el estudio de la extracción de nanotubos de carbono de pared única semiconductores específicos. Su polímero, el polifluoreno, se aplica en células eléctricamente conductoras y electroluminiscentes, así como en células solares. Solubilidad
Soluble en alcohol caliente, éter, benceno y ácido acético glacial. Insoluble en agua.
