N-Methylformamide is used to prepare methyl isocyanate. It is used as an extraction solvent for aromatic hydrocarbons and acts as a ligand in coordination chemistry. It is employed as a solvent in oil refineries and in aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Further, it is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. In addition to this, it is used as an investigational anticancer drug and an intermediate in the production of some pharmaceutical compounds.

Aplicaciones
La N-metilformamida se utiliza para preparar el metil isocianato. Se utiliza como disolvente de extracción para hidrocarburos aromáticos y actúa como ligando en química de coordinación. También se emplea como disolvente en refinerías de petróleo y en condensadores electrolíticos de aluminio, y como reactivo en la síntesis orgánica. Además, se utiliza como un fármaco anticanceroso en investigación y un intermedio en la producción de algunos compuestos farmacéuticos.

Solubilidad
Miscible con agua, acetona y etanol. No miscible con éter.

Notas
Incompatible con agentes oxidantes fuertes, ácidos, bases y cloruros ácidos.
