Descripción

Sodium methoxide is used as a base and a reagent in organic chemistry. It is useful in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It acts as a nucleophile and is used in the production of methyl ethers. It serves as an initiator of anionic addition polymerization with ethylene oxide, forming a polyether with high molecular weight. It is involved in the production of biodiesel from vegetable oils and animal fats.

Aplicaciones
El metóxido de sodio se utiliza como base y reactivo en química orgánica. Es útil en la síntesis de productos farmacéuticos y agroquímicos. Actúa como un nucleófilo y se utiliza en la producción de éteres metílicos. Sirve como iniciador de la polimerización de adición aniónica con óxido de etileno, formando un poliéter con gran peso molecular. También se usa en la producción de biodiesel a partir de aceites vegetales y grasas animales.

Solubilidad
Miscible con etanol, metanol, grasas y ésteres. No miscible con hidrocarburos y disolventes orgánicos.

Notas
Sensible al aire, la humedad y el calor. Incompatible con ácidos, cloruros ácidos, anhídridos ácidos, agentes oxidantes, metales alcalinos, disolventes clorados, agua y agentes reductores.
