1-(n-Butyl)imidazole is used in the synthesis of a heterocyclic mesomeric betaine and 1-(1-butyl-3-imidazolio)propane-3-sulfonate (BIm3S). It acts as an N-coordinated ligand. It is used in the chiral separation of amino acids and anionic pharmaceuticals by capillary electrophoresis. It is used for preparation of substituted phenyl-containing imidazolium ionic liquid.

Aplicaciones
El 1-(n-butilo)imidazol se utiliza en la síntesis de una betaína mesomérica heterocíclica y del 1-(1-butil-3-imidazolio)propano-3-sulfonato (BIm3S). Actúa como un ligando coordinado con N. Se utiliza en la separación quiral de aminoácidos y productos farmacéuticos aniónicos por electroforesis capilar. Se emplea para la preparación de líquido iónico de imidazolio que contiene fenilo sustituido.

Solubilidad
Soluble en cloroformo y metanol.

Notas
Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Mantener el recipiente bien cerrado en un lugar seco y bien ventilado. Los materiales incompatibles son los agentes oxidantes.
