It is employed as an antiepileptic drug. It is hydrolyzed quickly to VPA in vivo, but has intrinsic anticonvulsant activity. Also a reactant used in the synthesis of mutual prodrugs containing bio-cleavable and drug releasable disulfide linkers.

Aplicaciones
Se utiliza como un medicamento antiepiléptico. Se hidroliza rápidamente con VPA in vivo, pero tiene actividad anticonvulsiva intrínseca. También es un reactivo utilizado en la síntesis de profármacos mutuos que contienen enlazadorr de disulfuro bioescindible y liberable del fármaco.

Solubilidad
Soluble en cloroformo, dimetilsulfóxido y metanol. Insoluble en agua.

Notas
Almacenar en un lugar fresco. Mantener el recipiente bien cerrado en un lugar seco y bien ventilado. Almacenar lejos de agentes oxidantes.
