This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Acros Organics product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Acros Organics product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General description

  • Glycine is an essential acid that can be used for synthesis of creatine, purines and porphyrins
  • Soluble in water; has a pH of ∼=5.5-6.5 in solution
  • Glycine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that regulates the activity of NMDA receptors and affects neural activity

Applications

  • Glycine may also be used to maintain osmotic pressure, or as a component of other molecular biology buffers that are ion-dependent
  • Glycine is used in molecular biology as a buffer component for gel electrophoresis; the ability of glycine to adopt a negative charge at higher pH makes it ideal for separating proteins in the stacking layer
  • Intended for biochemistry applications
