Description

Pyrogallol is used in hair dying and suturing materials dying. It is used as a developing agent in black and white developers, as a metal-complexing agent and is involved in oxygen absorption in gas analysis. It exhibits antiseptic properties. Its alkaline solution is used to absorb oxygen from air, thereby it plays a vital role to calculate the amount of oxygen in air.

Solubility
Soluble in ethanol, water and ether. Slightly soluble in chloroform.

Notes
Air and light sensitive. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, alkalis, metal oxides, ammonia, iodine, lime water, potassium permanganate and strong bases.
