Columbia Agar with Blood / Chocolate Agar

Isolate and cultivate fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms from different specimens using Columbia Agar with Blood / Chocolate Agar, a single bi-plate that includes two media formulations.

Read more results from a single patient sample and produce more diagnostic details of pathogenic organisms whilst reducing storage capacity issues in the incubator with a bi-plate that includes two widely used microbiological media.

Columbia Agar with Blood on one side of the plate contains 5% sheep blood to promote growth of fastidious organisms with clearly visible hemolysis forms for staphylococci and streptococci, and it gives typical growth for S.pneumoniae (dent morphology).

Chocolate Agar on the other side of the plate is a highly nutritious medium for the isolation and cultivation of fastidious microorganisms such as Neisseria and Haemophilus spp. The presence of starch ensures that toxic metabolites produced by Neisseria are absorbed, and phosphate buffers are included to prevent changes in pH due to amine production that would affect the survival of the organism.
