Selenite Cystine Broth Base is an enrichment medium for the isolation of salmonellae from feces and food products.

 

  • Cystine reduces the toxicity of selenite and provides extra organic sulphur, which spares critical sulphur components of the bacteria
  • Formulation recommended by the AOAC3 for detection of Salmonella in foodstuffs
  • Included in the standard methods media of the American Public Health Association4, 5
  • Complies with the requirements of the United States Pharmacopoeia6

 

Selenite Cystine Broth Base is a modification of the formulation described by Leifson1 with cysteine and is used as an enrichment culture for salmonellae from feces, foodstuffs, and other materials.
